L. Frank Baum, The Goose Man of Macatawa
The author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was born on May 15, 1856. The Holland Sentinel has an excellent feature on Baum's Michigan connection, explaining that this multi-talented man was known by many names, but in the resort community of Macatawa, he was known simple as "The Goose Man."

Yooper Secession: Talk in the Upper Peninsula of a 51st State
The Detroit Free Press reports that the topic of the U.P. seceding from Michigan to form the 51st state was raised at the last Marquette County Board of Commissioners meeting. U.P. secession has come up periodically since Michigan lost the Toledo War in 1836, and ended up with the U.P. instead of Toledo. The Michigan Legislature defeated U.P. secession by a single vote in the 1970s.

100 Years at Tiger Stadium
Tiger Stadium opened on April 20, 1912. It was 100 years ago last weekend that Ty Cobb scored the first run by stealing home. From that day until 1999, The corner of Michigan & Trumbull was the address for baseball in Michigan. Click through for some memories, photos and a great video of this classic ballpark.
