Celebrate good old days at Wolcott Mill Metropark Farm Harvest Festival

Enjoy the good old days on the farm during the Harvest Festival at Wolcott Mill Metropark Farm Center in Ray Township on Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Children can participate in several activities including, panning for gold, candy scramble, corn shucking and corn eating contests.  A variety of animal demonstrations will be held throughout the day.  Watch as we clean, card, spin and weave wool. Visit with the vendors selling a variety of handmade goods and stop for a laugh with Rosco the Clown.  There will also be live entertainment including the Shadgrass Bluegrass Band on Saturday and Sunday.  The Shanegang Cloggers will be performing and watch sheep shearing by our professional shearer Sy Caryl on Sunday.  On Saturday, Milton Hostetler will be doing horse shoeing demonstrations throughout the day and a cooking demonstration by Jennifer Vasich, the author of The Lavender Gourmet cookbook will be held at 1:00 p.m.   Take a horse drawn wagon ride.  Refreshments will be available for purchase and from 9am â€“ 11:30am Sunday, the Ray Township Lions will host a pancake breakfast.  Donâ€™t forget to visit our friendly animals.  Parking is free.


On Saturday night, George Ferguson will be back at the helm as caller at the Barn Dance and Dinner from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with dinner served at 6 p.m., followed by dancing.  Tickets are $12 per person.  Pre-registration and pre-payment are required.]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[ESCANABA â€“ The Delta County Suicide Prevention Taskforce and the Delta County Sheriff Officeâ€™s Victim Services Unit will be holding a Suicide Prevention Awareness Walk on Saturday, September 12, 2009. The Walk will be held at the end of National Suicide Prevention Week at the Ludington Park Pavilion in Escanaba. 
	
The Suicide Prevention Walk, entitled â€œEnd the Silence,â€ will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m., with the opening ceremony following at 10:00 a.m. The non-competitive run/walk, which will occur rain or shine, will start at 11:00 a.m. with 2, 5, 10 mile route options. Registration fees are: $25 per adult; $10 per child up to 13 years old; and $50 per family. Registration fees are waived with pledges of $50 or more; collection of pledges optional.

Pre-registration deadline is August 15, which will secure your requested t-shirt size. T-shirts will be given with paid registration.  Tax-exempt contributions are welcomed. 

There will be a brat sale, silent auction, bake sale, and a small raffle. The five featured photographers will be on hand to unveil their work in a night of art and entertainment taking place on Friday, September 21st from 7pm to 10pm at the Bean &amp; Leaf Cafe, 106 S. Main St, Royal Oak.  The Bean &amp; Leaf Cafe is a new coffeehouse that opened its doors in August - next to Memphis Smoke in downtown Royal Oak.
 
The five featured photographers are Bobby Alcott, Paul Hitz, TedGuy49, Kirk Allen and &quot;Spike&quot; (from Mojo In The Morning on Channel 955).  The show opens to the public on September 21st and runs through October and will feature a wide range of styles and subjects by these Detroit area photographers.  
 
The artists are members of a photography group called &quot; Exposure.Detroit&quot;, whose periodic exhibits are designed to give talented, aspiring Michigan photographers an opportunity to be seen by a wider audience.
