So, besides all the normal stuff, like we get 4 seasons and all that jazz, i want to say something else. I've grown up in south east Michigan in a small town called Fair Haven. I'm close to Algonac and Harsens Island. I didn't realize it growing up, but i live in the most unique area in the country, probably the world (no joke). i'm 24 now. i've gone to school west of my stomping grounds and slowly realized what the water is all about. Michigan is the ONLY place on the planet with this much fresh water. I believe you would have to go to Lake Baikal in russia to find such a source of fresh water.........and that's frozen solid. So, i didn't realize it during my childhood, but Michigan offerers the widest variety of lakes and wetlands. this provides recreational boating, jet ski-ing, fishing, dunk hunting. Hunting in general is pretty large in michigan. tho i'm not a hunter myself, many of my friends and family do hunt, and it seems like there's no shortage of wildlife. I have to swerve around deer at night on occasion, it's not a rare thing. Also u can find dead deer on any expressway, they're that prevalent. I've realized how much i've taken for granted living in Michigan my whole life. It has everything to offer. i can honestly say that if michigan was cut off from the rest of the country, (provided we had our lakes), i think we would have the resources to sustain life indefinitley. it would be no problem. When i think about some other states having water shortages and things of that nature i have to really imagin what its like because i've taken so much for granted living here. it's hard to understand what it's like not have every resource at your fingertips. So, for the kid writing the paper, i hope you can scrape all this together. and if your teacher handed you all random states to write about, and some poor sap has to argue about how Iowa is the "best stat", (i'm sorry but...) she/he's stupid, because michigan IS the best state. So maybe you lucked out because you got Michigan for your paper. Run with it. There's not much that Michigan doesn't offer. Good luck. I wish you the best.

So as a little icebreaker, my idea is that we can contact people we know (or don't know) who are in the business of promoting Michigan or who are doing cool things in Michigan and get them to mail Mitchell a little something.

It would also be great if you post what you sent him or who you contacted below!!

Michigan has so much that makes it special - all we need to do is take a few minutes to tell people about it.
