There is also the Essence of Motown Literary Jam & Conference going established in 2004 hosted by Motown Writers Network for writers and readers in Metro Detroit. There are book drives, workshops on writing, marketing & publishing along with a keynote speaker for lunch. The annual event usually takes place over two days (Friday through Saturday) every second weekend of November.

A new writer’s retreat coming up in August, 2010. The Idea Lab is a unique retreat for writers of every stage and genre of creativity. This will be a time when writers, whether neophyte or veteran can come to share in community with other writers, and learn more about the craft from seasoned professionals. Ms. Paula Tutman, of WDIV and author of “Deadline” will be our featured speaker; and Ms. Jane Friedman, editor of Writer’s Digest Magazine will also be a featured presenter.

The most unique part of this retreat is that it approaches writing from a holistic point of view, meaning that we address not just the nuts & bolts of the writing process, but also the creative energetic work that enhances the writing process. The second unique thing about our retreat is that it is “all inclusive”. That means that one low cost includes transportation to & from the retreat location (from Troy, MI), lodging, meals, classes, class materials, and special entertainment.

Library of Michigan Picks Local Author Nancy Shaw's 'Raccoon Tune' to Spark Kids' Interest in Michigan Reads! Fall Program - via mi newswire

The Library of Michigan today announced that it has selected "Raccoon Tune" by Michigan author Nancy Shaw as the featured title for the 2008 Michigan Reads! program. Michigan Reads! is a one-state, one-children's-book program devoted to increasing early childhood literacy, with programming, events and author visits slated to take place throughout September 2008.
