&lt;blockquote&gt;John David Dingell Jr. became the longest-serving member of the U.S. House of Representatives ever today â€“ and heâ€™ll be heading to the White House this afternoon so President Barack Obama can congratulate him in person.

As a side note, Dingell had already started his third full two-year term in Congress when Obama, 47, was born in Hawaii.

Dingell, the president said in a statement, â€œhas long striven to ensure that every tax dollar is used wisely and that we have a more open, honest, and accessible government. â€¦ On behalf of the American people, let me say â€˜thank you, Chairman Dingell,â€™ for your decades of distinguished service.â€&lt;/blockquote&gt;
