I have 2 of these cars and they are the original cars mfg in Italy. they are great little cars. I have been in contact with the mfg. in Italy and they were very informative. the cars I have are driven by a 116 volt motor and has 18 12 volt gel batteries plus one for the 12 volt system. the cars I have are 2003 and have very little use on them,the only problem with them is the batteries will not hold a charge very long because they sat to long. To replace the batteries cost about $1800 but the guy in Italy told me that the car with new batteries would run trouble free for 4 to 5 years, he said they have thousands of these cars there, even the police departments use them. I don’t know. Many cars like these are very popular throughout Europe both gas and electric. Many failures in todays business world result in under estimating their startup captital, which result in failure within a couple of years of starting operations. There are other micro-cars now being sold in the USA. The Kurrent looked like a really slick looking car it just needed more time to catch on.

The company AEVCO(Michigan) which made the Kurrent is out of business. They went out in APR 08. There is no one to get in touch with. There were only 47 cars made with only approximately 4 unsold throughout the USA. Most of the dealer that dealt with the Kurrent don’t want anything to do with the car or have gone out of business. If the dealer still exist the last time they had contact with the company is through the bankruptcy lawyers. The body frame is Italian designed and they are still in business. They just make the body. There is a car that is the UK called Electtrica that is the same car and body style made by Future Vehicle of UK. I have not been able to get a hold of anyone there. Their website does not exist anymore. Nor was I able to find any information about the car while I was in the UK on business. I know the dealers that still have the car. If you are in need of some parts you can contact me @ jmmihuc@comcast.net I may be able to help you. Any other specific information I can get you in touch with someone who use to sell the car.

I have tried everything I know, to get in contact with anyone supposedly manufacturing or selling the Kurrent. To date this car & Company seems to be a ghost! I’ve emailed & tried to locate a phone number to a company that the phone companies say does not exist.
Can anyone help?

Why is it that for over 30 years we have used electric forklift trucks in the factorys but we’re unable to come up with a stupid electric auto.
Lights and brakes, a motor and batteries, a place to site and a steering wheel and the ability to haul a load. Americans wake up… We’ve been scammed….

As of April 08 The Kurrent website does not respond to contact requests. The Green Car Co. of Seattle reports that American Electric is out of business, although the car chassis is still available from its Italian manufacturer, and the drive components are widely available.

are you sure you want to mix it up on the highway with a semi going the opposite direction at a combined speed of 110 mph in one of these things? i think 40-45 mph (urban thoroughfare speed) would be more than adequate. at any rate this car looks to be perfect for town transit where i live in MT since the winters are simply too cold, dangerous and dark to bicycle. glad to hear reassurance about snow tire compatability. but how efficient is the heater/defrost, and does it come standard? i see it in interior photos, but not listed anywhere in features on the company website…

Harold: I’ve been to the AEV offices many times, and I’ve never known them to be rude or neglectful of ANYONE that walks in the door. Did you make the appointment in advance or call that day? The receptionist has always been nothing but professional to me and I’m not sure what you mean by “her boyfriend”. They would never discriminate because a visitor did not have a suit on – that’s absolutely absurd! The entire staff is attentive, curteous and very professional. The product is fantastic and they are very proud to show it off.

Well: made the appointment with a friend 3/9/07/ We sat for a half hour staring at the walls. We were told to wait, no one came. I work for the city, my partner is on the board of a retirement fund and looking for an investment.

This NEV meets all salt corrosion testing and wont rust out on you. Its a rear wheel drive vehicle with about 75% of the weight on the rear tires. This allows for good snow grip. Its a standard 13 inch DOT tire so you can buy snow tires for it like any other car. All repairs are done at your home. They will send a repairman to your house and fix anything wrong with it. There are only about 360 parts to the whole vehicle and this makes repairs very simple. They’re comfortable for a majority of people.
