A bad football team will be replaced by “Bad Boys” on Sunday.

The Lions failed to sell out their game against the Redskins at Ford Field by Thursday’s deadline and, for the first time since late in the 2001 season, their game will not be broadcast on local television.

No station whose signal penetrates a 75-mile radius of Detroit may broadcast the game. That’s a new development since the last time the Lions were blacked out. In the past, die-hard fans could drive outstate to watch the game on television.

Even fans who have the NFL Ticket through DirecTV or a satellite dish won’t receive a signal for the game.

In place of the Lions game, Fox 2 plans to show the movie “Best Laid Plans,” starring Reese Witherspoon and Josh Brolin, followed by a “Cops” doubleheader. Fox will broadcast the Giants-Steelers game and CBS will show the Browns-Jaguars game at 4 p.m.

A planned Muskegon Heights housing development hasn’t even been built yet, but it’s already in a museum. Mona Terrace, a residential neighborhood projected for the site of a former municipal wastewater treatment plant, is part of an exhibit opening Oct. 23 at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.

The year-long exhibition titled “Green Community” features communities of all sizes where government and the private sector are coming together to work for a more sustainable future. It’s the third in a series of National Building Museum exhibitions that focus on sustainability in architecture, planning and design.

A record 7.47 million Michiganians have registered to vote in the Nov. 4 general election, Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land announced today.

That’s about a 5 percent jump from January and 98 percent of the state’s voting age population.

“I’m pleased so many people have registered to vote,” Land said. “Now I encourage everyone to take the next step and cast a ballot on Tuesday, Nov. 4 either in person or by absentee if you qualify.

The state of Michigan will be honored during space shuttle Endeavour’s upcoming STS-126 mission to the International Space Station. Endeavour is targeted to launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Nov. 14.

NASA is honoring all 50 states during the remaining flights of the space shuttle, which will be retired in 2010. During the STS-126 mission, Hawaii and Indiana also will be honored.
