Here’s an editorial from the Detroit News saying (in part):

The motivator of the call for a constitutional convention appears to be to undo many ballot proposals voters passed in recent years, including the Proposal A property tax reform, the ban on gay marriage, term limits and the recently passed ban on government affirmative action programs.

That sounds to us like an assumption that voters aren’t smart enough to know what they want, so their mistakes must be corrected by a panel of bureaucrats, academicians and politicians.

The current Michigan Constitution does not adequately protect the citizens from the legal system because the Michigan Constitution delegates the Michigan Supreme Court to control the entire attorney disciplinary process. Attorneys control the process. It is like the fox guarding the hen house.

The Michigan Constitution must be changed to allow all Michigan Citizens the opportunity to elect any citizen to the Attorney Grievance Commission. Currently the Michigan Supreme Court appoints all nine members, and six must be attorneys. The Michigan Supreme
Court should have no authority over the Attorney Grievance Commission and its staff.
