Schools are big businesses, multi-million dollar employers that spend a good part of every dollar they receive providing jobs in nearly every community in the state of Michigan.
If we crash these businesses – especially immediately prior to what already looks like a shaky summer travel season – we could find ourselves in even bigger trouble. Teachers and school employees have significantly more vacation time than other professions. Just as in Europe, more time off leads to more travel.
Here’s hoping that the legislature and the governor can see beyond their ideological differences and craft a solution that puts a very significant Michigan employer, our public school system, on a secure footing for this year and years beyond.
