On Monday morning I started looking through photos from folks I know in Detroit and started seeing all kinds of pictures from Tiger Stadium. Over this whole week, photos have been popping up from a lucky group of photographers who had the equivalent – if you’re a lifelong Tigers fan like me – of a Willy Wonka Golden Ticket dropped on them.
The first photo I saw on Monday was this one, about which Ken writes:
Tiger Stadium. Now closed, but once lively with the roar of the Tigers faithful. For the past 8 years the stadium has stood, awaiting its date with a wrecking ball.
A once in a lifetime opportunity happened for me this day… I was called and informed that a small group of Flickr members were being allowed into Tiger Stadium. 8 years after the ballpark had closed, these pictures are the result of what the park looks like in its current condition. This has by far been the greatest photo opportunity of my life.
You can see many more of Ken’s photos from Tiger Stadium and also connect with other photos from the September 28, 2007 outing to Tiger Stadium on Flickr (slideshow).
