The second annual Michigan Schooner Festival sets sail September 10-12 on West Bay in Traverse City at Open Space Park and Clinch Park Marina. The festival will feature seven tall ships: Madeline, Welcome, Champion, Coaster II, Manitou, Inland Seas and Pier Wisconsin’s S/V Denis Sullivan. It kicks off tomorrow night (September 10) with the Grand Parade of Sail as the seven vessels sail down West Grand Traverse Bay together and dock at Clinch Marina. Other weekend highlights include ship tours, food, entertainment, the Ring of Steel pirate reenactment troupe, artist vendors, kids games, and ticketed sailings including a special â€œgun battle sailâ€ aboard the Armed Sloop Welcome.
The Great Lakes Cider & Perry Festival (Sep 11-12) in St. Johns offers you a chance to sample some of the finest cider and perry (cider made from pears) from the Great Lakes area will be available for tasting. In addition to the cider and perry tastings, food vendors will be selling sweet and savory selections. Not too far away, Paw Paw’s Wine and Harvest Festival (Sep 10-12) offers music, family activities and wine tours and wine tasting tents abound throughout the festival area. If you’d like to add a little beer into the mix, how about the Hopps of Fun Beer & Wine Festival in Mackinaw City (Sep 11 & 12). Sample 50+ award winning Michigan micro-brewed beers and over 40 wines from Michigan’s four internationally recognized wine regions.
Each year thousands of people converge on the Wheatland Music Festival in Remus to enjoy a wide variety of activities, as well as the star-studded lineup on the main stage. There is a juried arts and crafts show, a raffle, children’s activities, teen and young adult activities, instrument and dance workshops, music, food, fellowship and fun. Impromptu jam sessions can be found throughout the campgrounds all weekend long.
