In practically every category, Detroit Tiger second baseman Placido Polanco has the edge over Yankees 2nd bagger Robinson Cano: batting average (Polanco is hitting .343 and 4th the majors), on base percentage, batting average with runners in scoring position, fielding (0 to 6 errors), and a little matter of team record. Yet Cano was leading in the All Star voting, prompting the Quo Vadimus blog to start a “Go to the Polls for Placido! All Star Campaign”.
Apparently, the campaign helped as Major League Baseball reports that Placido Polanco has overtaken the Yankees’ Robinson Cano as the top vote-getter among American League second baseman with 572,238.
Not quite. Voting now moves to MLB.com and while Polanco and Tiger Catcher Ivan Rodriguez are leading at their position, current Major League batting leader Magglio Ordonez is trailing in the outfielder voting.
