July Michigan Event Calendar
This is what we said last year and I think we will stick with the message... It seems that many media outlets are preaching the "staycation" this year. We say cut some corners, pack a lunch, brew your own coffee, just do what you have to do and support the events, cities and businesses that are making things happen. You might just have some fun and create some great memories in the process. |

Weird Wednesday: The Dogman in Washtenaw County Michiganders on the eastern side of the state may think they are safe from the stealthy predations of the Michigan Dog Man. But an Ann Arbor man wrote to say he has had encounters with an upright, unknown creature for the past 12 years in this vicinity.

National Pollinator Week - June 22-28th Agriculture is Michigan's second largest industry (maybe now it's our first), contributing more than $71 billion to the state's economy. Due to this we feel it is fitting that we bring awareness to National Pollinator Week which runs from June 22 to the 28th.
Video Rewind: Waterfront Film Festival 2009 Breaks Records Absolute Michigan contributor Scott Allman recently traveled to the Waterfront Film Festival in Saugatuck and brought back some cool footage from a record breaking year. If you didn't go this year then put it on our calendar for 2010!
Michigan lawmakers stare at the same chasm Michigan's elected officials face a crucial week of deciding how to deal with major budgetary shortfalls without any signs of a will to compromise. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Photo Friday: Summer Chair by dcclark dcclark (David Clark) says the he's a mathematician, photographer, explorer, improviser and that the combo works surprisingly well! Chapter & Verse on the General Motors Bankruptcy All kinds of news, blog posts, video and reactions to yesterday's filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy by General Motors.
Chrysler 3D at the 1939 World's Fair Boing Boing alerted us to 60 Minutes of Magic, a wonderful post with tons of photos and the rather strange video below. Iowahawk says that it all started when he found an original handout flyer for the Chrysler Pavilion at the 1939 New York World's Fair, along with a pair of 3-D glasses for the viewing of the Pavilion's three-dimensional film "In Tune With Tomorrow."
Starting at Mayor, Number 21, Dave Bing Yesterday Dave Bing was sworn in as the 62nd mayor of Detroit. He was a seven-time All-Star for the Detroit Pistons from 1966 to 1975. Upon retirement, Bing went into business in Detroit and has been active in the community over the years since.
Focusing on the Future at Ford It's interesting to consider how deeply our nation identified with the manufacturing and innovation represented by these cars and how much goodwill Ford, GM & Chrysler were able to squander with ill-advised production. Slowly, it appears that they are earning it back with efforts like yesterday's Ford Motor Company announcement that they will retool their Michigan Truck plant in Wayne.
