Granholm Vetos Helmet Law RepealThe Detroit News reports that Gov. Granholm vetoed legislation Friday that would have repealed the state's 37-year-old mandatory motorcycle helmet law. The House (66-37) and Senate (21-13) both passed the measure and Republican candidate DeVos . Granholm noted that after Louisiana permitted riders to go without helmet, cycle crash deaths jumped 65%. She wrote: "On this issue, the evidence is clear: Motorcycle helmets save lives and reduce serious injury."The article contains a quotation (that I think I need to have explained to me) from ABATE (American Bikers Aiming Toward Education of Michigan) legislative director Jim Rhoades "We look forward to a governor who will allow us to join 30 other states in being strong enough to take a position supporting freedom of choice, economic development and safety on the roadways." (ABATE represents cyclists who would rather not be required to wear helmets) Read Granholm: Helmets save lives in the Detroit News Related AreasArticlesBusiness > Health & Medical Community Community > Community & Nonprofit Organizations Community > Government Five Things You Need to Know about Michigan Media & Internet Media > Blogs & Forums Sports & Recreation Recreation & Sports > Motorcycles, Snowmobiles & ATVs Shopping > Cars, Trucks & Other Vehicles
