It will be held Jan. 9-12 this year and offers a chance to learn the fine points of this Michigan sport.Houghton & Hancock Bridgefest 2005 - June 17 - 19, 2005 Bridgefest was organized to celebrate the "birthday" of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, which provides a vital link between the communities of Houghton and Hancock, as well as a link to the Keweenaw Peninsula. The celebration includes many events, including shows, concerts, contests, boat tours, sporting events, and the annual Bridgefest parade and fireworks display. Tip-Up Town USA, Jan 21-22 & 28-29; Houghton Lake Earth Week 2006, March 27-31; Houghton Students for Environmental Sustainability (SfES) will present Earth Week 2006 during the week of March 27-31. Earth Week is a series of events held annually to celebrate the international Earth Day and raise awareness of environmental sustainability issues. In preparation for the Earth Week events SfES will be showing three films, free and open to the public, on Thursdays, beginning Mar. 16. "Night of All Nations", April 1; Houghton Michigan Tech University's International Club will present "The Night of All Nations" -- music, dances and fashions from around the world -- at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 1, at the Rosza Center. Showcasing the global cultural diversity that Michigan Tech offers to Upper Peninsula communities, the event will feature performances from Turkey, Mexico, China, India, Japan, Africa, Bolivia and United Sta Houghton to Host National XC Championships Friday's Daily Mining Gazette reported that the U.S. Skiing and Snowboarding Association (USSA) announced that Houghton will host the USSA Nationals cross country skiing competitions for the next two years. The races Races include 5 to 10k classic races, 10-15k freestyle races and the team sprint freestyle race and feature the nation's top racers. They are scheduled for January 1-7, 2007 and... Road Trip: Tip-Up Town USA, January 16-18 & 23-25 - Houghton Lake For more than 20 years, Tip-Up Town USA has been acclaimed among the top ten festivals in the nation. Approximately 80,000 people turn out to enjoy the winter time festivities which include Ice Fishing contests, a carnival, parade, Polar Bear Dip, Broomball, Family Fun Tent, Beverage Tent, crazy games and more!
