Although we try and keep you posted every month about great Michigan festivals and events, this month we'll try and give a little extra special love to all of Michigan's cool summertime and early fall festivities.

National Cherry Festival, Traverse City Michigan
The National Cherry Festival features over 150 events including free air shows over the Bay, colorful parades & marching bands, music shows, sporting events, rides & carnival games on the midway, pie-eating contests, clean blue skies, warm sunshine, crowds of smiling faces, and loads of luscious cherries prepared every way you can imagine!

The Week for June 30 - July 6, 2008
June 2008 will be remembered as one of the worst in terms of weather for many a year, so there probably won't be too many who are sad to see July roll into town! The highlight of the week is of course the 4th of July, but check here for a slew of weekend events from all over the state!

July Michigan Event Calendar July is bursting with things to do around Michigan so get out there people!!! It seems that many media outlets are preaching the "staycation" this year. We say cut some corners, pack a lunch and support the festivals, cities and businesses that are involved. You might just have some fun and create some great memories in the process.

Photo Friday: river days Detroit - waterfountain fun by mojo.d Dale says that this is the water fountain outside of the Ren Cen in Detroit and that it was warm, and a wonderful day to run thru the fountain.

Michigan History: The Detroit Zoo Polar bears frolicking in a glass tunnel surrounded by 300,000 gallons of crystal-clear water; kangaroos bouncing about in a simulated Australian Outback; or hundreds of amphibians living in the world’s only amphibian conservation center--a place the Wall Street Journal described as "Disneyland for toads." These are some of the experiences visitors can enjoy at the Detroit Zoo.

Road Trip: Detroit's Historic Eastern Market Every Saturday, Michigan's largest and most colorful market is host to more than 150 farmers and vendors from Michigan, Ohio, and Canada offering a cornucopia of fruits, vegetables, breads, baked goods, jellies, jams, honey, apple cider, cheeses, spices, herbs, plants and flowers.

Billed as "one of the most comprehensive expositions of renewable energy generating equipment, home and business energy efficiency techniques, and technical workshops in the state".

Saugatuck Waterfront Film Festival - June 12-15, 2008 Every June, filmgoers, actors, producers and directors come to the resort village of Saugatuck to screen independent films from all over the United States. Highlights include an outdoor screening of Double Dutch, the return of locally produced "The Last Big Attraction", seminars, a Michigan film showcase and a concert by Rick James' Original Stone City Band.

The Week for June 2-8, 2008 This week we're bidding farewell to Delegate-Gate and the Pistons, getting ready to drink from the Stanley Cup and for events including The Mackinac Island Lilac Festival, Charlevoix Renaissance Festival, Leelanau Vintners Premium Pour, the Upper Peninsula Championship Rodeo in Iron River, the Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts, Greek Festival in Kalamazoo and Potterville's Gizzard Fest.

Asparagus goes to the movies ... and the National Asparagus Festival Asparagus was king in Oceana County ... until the U.S. eliminated import tariffs on South American asparagus and kicked the bottom out of the market. The Week for May 26 - June 1, 2008 The big stories heading into the week are the playoff runs of the Detroit Pistons (Eastern Conference Finals v Celtics) and the Detroit Red Wings (Stanley Cup v the Pittsburgh Penguins). Our Michigan May Event Calendar says that we can look forward to the Mancelona Bass Festival and the Red Bull Air Race in Detroit this weekend.
